About Creative Aging

Making art accessible for all ages!

In this program, I’m able to be creative and bring something out in me that I didn’t even know I had. I look forward to [my class]. I know I’m coming here, I know I’m going to enjoy myself, and I’m going to learn something.

Creative Aging Program Important Fall Updates.

In keeping with our values of equity and inclusion and our mission to provide opportunities for as many students as possible, we are limiting registration to a maximum of 2 Creative Aging Classes per session per student as demand for these classes far exceeds our current capacity.

Please note our new process. Art kits will be available for virtual participants to pick up at Art Works Now during business hours on April 12 and 13. On April 14 all remaining boxes will be mailed.

Students who receive items they don’t need are invited to donate the supplies back to the Little Free Art Shop in front of the AWN building

Why creating art at any age matters…

Through the Lifetime Arts organization and the National Guild for Community Arts Education, Art Works Now learned the best practices for serving students who are 55 years of age and better. After many years of successful programming through the city of Hyattsville's "Hyattsville is Home" programs, our Creative Aging Program is now a free weekly, sequential arts program designed to serve older adults seeking arts learning that connects them to a creative network of peers, while also supporting their physical, mental, and emotional wellness.

The Creative Aging Program consists of three 10-week sessions and one 8-week session, each featuring up to six classes. This program welcomes almost 400 students a year! The classes are offered at no charge to students and all art supplies are provided on site or delivered to those attending virtually.

Our CAP arts learning experiences engage participants in an array of artistic media, styles, and techniques that give them the opportunity to cultivate their individual artistic process and promote arts appreciation and healthy aging.
